What is the 5TH ANNUAL COLORADO INTERCOLLEGIATE SWING BATTLE?
The 5 th Annual Colorado Intercollegiate Swing Battle is a large dance gathering where students from all over Colorado and the US enjoy swing dancing, learn how to dance, meet new friends, and celebrate swing and jazz together.
Dance events are held on Friday, April 4, 2008 and Saturday, April 5, 2008. Each evening is filled with social dancing, live music, special performances, contests, and games.
Swing Dancing
Swing Dancing describes several American dance styles born during the Jazz Swing Era (late 1920s to 1940s). Lessons at the Intercollegiate Swing Battle focus on Lindy Hop, Charleston, Blues, Balboa and Vernacular Jazz styles. Swing dancing is fun, energetic, and social. It's a great way to exercise and meet people at the same time.
Total beginners welcome!
If you have never swing danced before, then there's no better opportunity for you to get started! The 5 th Annual Colorado Intercollegiate Swing Battle offers special lessons for total beginners or dancers who have been dancing for less than 6 months.
You'll laugh. You'll sweat. You'll be immersed in an energetic and intense learning environment. And by the end of the weekend, you will have learned simple fun moves to get you started dancing right away.
What to Wear?
At the social events, make sure you dress to impress. There is not a specific dress code. Dancers come dressed in a variety of styles from Vintage to modern. Expect to sweat! Also bring an extra t-shirt, towel, and bottle of water. For shoes, we recommend sneakers with smooth soles, dance sneakers, or swing dance shoes.
No Need to Bring Partners
There is no need to bring a partner. During classes, partners will rotate. At the evening dances, everyone dances together. Come with a group of friends, or come by yourself!
Nighttime Events for All
If you love listening to Jazz and do not dance, there is still plenty for you to enjoy! Our night time events will feature some of the top jazz musicians in Colorado. Come and enjoy the live sounds of Swingin' Seven! click here to check out the band!
