Spring Break 2007

A Collection of Pictures

I have a variety of pictures taken over four days in Estes and RMNP. On Sunday, March 11, I drove up to Estes in the afternoon. I drove through the park briefly and then headed to my friends' house. As I pulled onto their street, a few little does were munching in the neighbor's front yard.

A little doe walks across the neighbor's yard looking for a snack.

After visiting with Lori and the girls for a while, I needed to go into town to rent snowshoes for the next couple of days. Hannah went with me. As you can see, she was clearly interested in helping me pick out good equipment! The righthand pictures shows the snowshoes that I rented. They are MSR Denalis.

On the way home (?), we drove over to the Lodge, just to find our friend Michael was gone for the day. So we left him a note, picked up a pizza at Safeway, and headed home for a dinner and movie with everyone. We watched Steve Martin as the Pink Panther. Oh my. That movie was almost painful. There were some really funny scenes; Steve Martin was perfect for the role.

Monday, March 12

The next morning, we had a bit of a lazy breakfast, while Lori made sure the girls felt ok to travel. Elizabeth had been really sick the week before, and it seemed that Hannah was showing symptoms. We finally got the car packed and the Smiths were sent on there way. It was very nice of them to loan me their house for a few days in their absence! I cleaned myself up and headed up to Bear Lake for some afternoon snowshoeing. I made it up to Dream Lake, which was beautiful! The picture below is of the craigs on Flattop Mountain, as seen from Dream Lake. I have many more pictures of that specific hike on a separate report, which can be found here.

After the hike, I went over to Horseshoe Park, to see if there were any animals to watch. As usual, I was not disappointed! There was a small herd of elk grazing along the road.

Chapin, Chiquita and Ypsilon, all peaks in the Mummy Range, overlooking Horseshoe Park.

On to Tuesday, March 13.
