Lessons with Jen

Have questions about a pattern that you just can't figure out? Want to learn something new? Have an idea for an item, but you just can't figure out how to make it come together? Chances are, I can help with all of those situations. I have been crocheting and knitting for years, and teaching classes/lessons for the past few years.

I have been asked what my philosophy of knitting is. Well, I didn't know there was any philosophy to knitting. But when I stop to think about it, I guess my philosophy lies in the fact that I am a craftsman, and NOT an artist. Yes, there is a fine distinction between the two. I strive to make garments and items that I will use on a daily basis. In that pursuit, I try to improve my skills and ensure the success of other knitters around me. In that way, knitting is the means to an end, the material that makes a lifestyle possible. You can't replace a good wool sweater on any cold winter day in the mountains.
I'm really not into making weird, funky things that stand out in a crowd. That's just not my personality or style. But I appreciate quality workmanship (after all, beauty is often found in the small details of any hand-made piece) and solid pieces that can be worn or used for years, or passed down through generations. Those are the traits of a quality piece, and those are my goals as a craftsman. I'm not too much into instant gratification either - if something is worth doing, it's worth doing well, even if it takes more than a couple of hours.

If I can help you achieve success with your knitted or crocheted projects, feel free to give me a call. I charge $20/hour, which is less than either of the two knitting stores in town (both of which I help at from time to time). I like to meet my customers for lessons over coffee at Barnes and Noble, or one of the coffeeshops in Old Town Fort Collins.
