This first map shows the Kenai Penninsula and Anchorage just to the north. This is where I'm flying into. Wednesday, May 23, I'll stayed at the Copper Whale Inn in Anchorage, overlooking Cook Inlet.
This next map is the railroad and higway corridor between Anchorage and Fairbanks. On Thursday, May 24, I took the Alaska Railroad for a 12-hour ride up to Fairbanks. The views were spectacular - both in May and September - on my way home.
The next map is a simplified version of the Yukon Territory (Canada) and the eastern portion of Alaska and it's highway system. It's a scan from the 2006 Milepost book - a good reference if you need one. Note, it is updated every year; I haven't seen the 2008 version in stores yet (at least, here in CO). The three highways that were included in our study this summer are highlighted in blue. You can see that we were all over the state.
