CSU WOMENS LAX 2006 - 2007 DONATIONS Jump down to the donation information DONATIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED The Colorado State Women's Lacrosse Team is a club sport at Colorado State University. Club sports are organizations that give college students the opportunity to play their chosen sport at a highly competitive level. The main difference between Division I (NCAA) programs and club sports teams is not the level of dedication of the players, which can be just as high, but the level of funding. Club sports have no budget for recruiting -- though we still get "recruits" that want to play for us from all over the country. Also, there is no budget for full time coaches -- though we have FOUR coaches that volunteer their time to help us improve. Finally and most importantly, we currently have a very limited budget to help support the actual players on the CSU Women's Lacrosse team. As a club sport, the team receives a limited annual budget (~$5 K) from Colorado State University student fee allocations. However, this falls well short of our annual operating budget (~$30 K). Therefore, we generate most of our budget from player dues and fundraising activities. While we work very hard to fundraise for ourselves, any contributions from our family, friends, fans and community are so helpful to us. These contributions are even more valuable and needed as we move beyond the successes we've found within the state of Colorado (2003 & 2004 State Champions) and onto burst onto the larger national stage (2nd place in Nationals in 2004-2005 season)... The CSU Women's Lacrosse team was a major contender for the national title in 2004 - 2005 and will be vying for the number one spot this coming year. 2004 - 2005 Season Wow... What a year. In the end, our record was 11 - 2 - 1. We won our division (Rocky Mountain Women's Lacrosse League - RMWLL) and won the 1st Annual "Battle of the Rockies" against the University of Colorado. In addition to that, our team President, Jen Gunlikson, won the USL-WDIA MVP award and was granted 1st team All-American. Our two losses were to the same team & they were our first and last game of the season. The last game of anyone's season actually... the National Championship game! From being totally unranked three years ago to currently ranked #2 in the nation has been quite a ride! All in all, last year was one of the most spectacular teams and seasons I've ever had the privledge to be a part of. For more information on our run to the Nationals, click here! 2003 - 2004 Season Following an undefeated (5-0-0) Fall 2003 season, we were ranked 17th in the nation (tied) in US Lacrosse magazine's pre-season poll. This was the first time in the history of the CSU Women's Lacrosse program that we were recognized by the national lacrosse community -- and we took advantage of it. Valentine's Day weekend (Feb. 13-16, 2004) we travelled to San Luis Obispo, CA to compete in a huge, top-20 tournament hosted by the defending national champs. At that tournament, despite it being our very First full-field game of the season (restricted to playing indoors on a track with only one goal during the winter), we gave the defending national champs run for their money. The successes continued throughout the season. For the first time in Spring 2004, we competed in a league that we organized (the RMWLL - Rocky Mountain Women’s Lacrosse League) that included teams from Colorado and Utah. Our record in the RMWLL was undefeated and and our overall record was 12 - 4. We won the RMWLL conference by winning a tough game against Brigham Young University (score: 8 -7), whereby winning an automatic bid to the US Lacrosse Women's Division Intercollegiate Associates 2004 National Championships in Saint Louis. At Nationals, we had some first-timers nerves to overcome in the first game, but ended up putting in an excellent showing the remainder of the weekend. At the end of the tourney, we had beaten... and we ended the season ranked 7th in the Nation. We had proven to ourselves and shown the rest of the nation that we deserved to be at Nationals. Having only graduated two Seniors and with a strong incoming Freshman class we expect even greater successes this coming year. The women on the team are exceptionally dedicated to their team and their sport. The training season for lacrosse starts during Fall Ball - our off-season. We use this time to get back into the game after a long summer break (we typically have 2-3 practices/week), and to fundraise for the rest of the year. Our fundraising efforts include hosting lacrosse clinics for local schools to help spread our love of the game. We continue practicing indoors over the winter months, focusing on fine-tuning our plays and defense and we spend a great deal of time on conditioning. We pride ourselves on knowing that no team we play will be more prepared for any given game than we are. During our Spring season, we practice Monday through Friday during the week and usually have at least one game every weekend. Again, there are no tuition, equipment or travel scholarships for the women who play -- in fact, between team dues and trip fees, each player can expect to pay ~$500 year out of pocket to play on the team. As our national exposure increases, we can expect our travel budget to correspondingly get higher and higher (for example, we are going to try to play in a Fall tournament this coming year on the East Coast to increase our National exposure). AMAZING SUPPORT FROM OUR FAMILIES, FRIENDS & FANS!! We want to say a HUGE Thank You to all our supporters from last year... we can't wait to see you out here again this year. You all were so amazing and I know how much you helped inspire the team. We're SO PROUD of our girls. They represented CSU with so much class, dignity, spirit and heart. Time & time again at Nationals I was told how much other teams enjoyed playing us because of the quality and sportmanship of the team. It was an amazing season -- one everyone should always be proud of. Can't wait for this next year!! Our success on the field has alot to do with our support off the field. We so appreciate it when parents and friends come to our games to cheer us on. In a similar manner, any contribution, monetary or otherwise, you can provide to help the women on the team lighten the financial load would be greatly appreciated.
All donations, monetary or other, are tax-deductible. Thank you to all the supporters of the Colorado State University women's lacrosse team. Through your care and donations, our program will continue to grow and enjoy ever-greater successes! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you!
