  1. Faculty Intern, Hensel-Phelps Construction Co. Greely, Colorado. Productivity analysis (emphasizing video timelapsing) of two major projects in Denver, Colorado.

  3. Vice-President, Ingenieria y Gerencia de Obras, Inc. Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (D.R.), 1986 - 1990. Major projects performed included:

a) Consulting

 

  1. Project scheduling, Dominican Telephone Company main office building. Scheduling of the final stages and move-in for a multi-story building, privately funded by the Dominican GTE subsidiary. Requested by the owner. Santo Domingo, D.R., 1990.

  3. Contractor prequalification system for the Dominican Telephone Company. Santo Domingo, D.R., 1990.
  4.  

  5. Project scheduling, Nisibon irrigation system rehabilitation and enlargement. Funded by the International Bank and the Dominican government, at around $9,000,000. Work performed for the consortium Esfega (Venezuela)/J. Fortuna, Inc. (D.R.). Higüey, D.R., 1989.

  7. Control system development for the government supervision of the Mexico Avenue urban renewal project. A major project in Santo Domingo, involving around RD$100,000,000 ($20,000,000). Performed for the project supervision, Bello y Diaz, Inc. Santo Domingo, D.R., 1988.

  9. Setup of the computerized system for project control and monitoring division of the Nizao-Valdesia channel rehabilitation project. Funded by the World bank and the Dominican government at a total cost of around RD$40,000,000 ($8,000,000). Performed for the government supervision. San Cristobal, D.R., 1987.

  11. Setup of the computerized control unit for the second phase of the Yaque del Norte Irrigation project. Funded by the International Bank and the Dominican government at a cost of over RD$140,000,000 ($12,000,000). Requested by the Mexican general contractor, Ingenieros Civiles Asociados (ICA). Santiago, D.R., 1986-87.

 

b. Contracting

  1. Rehabilitation of the Governor’s Palace, a Dominican national landmark, under a contract with the French Cultural Alliance. Santo Domingo, D.R., 1990.
  2.  

  3. Construction of four-story buildings in Invivienda, a large government low-income housing complex. Santo Domingo, D.R., 1986-87 and 1989-90.

  5. Residential construction projects, including several apartment complexes, in Santo Domingo, D.R., 1986-90.

 

  1. Head, cost control department, Samuel Conde & Assoc., Inc., Santo Domingo, D.R. In charge of the cost control system for the general contractor of the Haina Harbor enlargement project. This harbor is now the largest in the Caribbean. Supervised by the American consortium PRC -Frederick R. Harris, Inc. Funded by the World Bank and the Dominican government. 1984-1986.

  3. Engineering and construction for CARE Dominicana, Inc., (a division of CARE International), Santo Domingo, D.R. Developed and supervised the construction of 200 rural dwellings within schedule and budget. Most work performed using voluntary labor. Directed American Peace Corps volunteers. Eventually, this position led to the appointment as technical director of the Center of Appropriate technology for Low Income Housing described in the Research Experience section. 1983-1984.

  5. Assistant project manager, Puerta de Hierro Inc., Santo Domingo, D.R. Performed the planning and cost control of 256 residential units (of a total of 640), and implemented a computerized control system for the firm. Used the Line of Balance technique along with traditional CPM. Puerta de Hierro was an international venture managed by Hong-Kong and Dominican professionals. 1981-1983.

  7. Structural Engineer, Batista & Associates, Inc., Santo Domingo, D.R. Structural design of spillways and other hydraulic structures. Assisted in the structural design of buildings. Supervised a major hotel enlargement in La Romana, D.R. 1976-1979.
