COMPUTER LAB ASSIGNMENT NUMBER 3

CODE AND RESOURCE LOADING

PROCEDURE

  1. Preliminaries
    As before, work with a local copy of your project. Procedures covered before are only briefly outlined here.
    1. Open your P302 project on your M:\P3 drive and subdirectory.
    2. Copy this project to your C:\P3win\projects subdirectory. Name this copy with the first three letters of your last name plus "3." If your last name is Senior, the project should be called "SEN3."
    3. Close P302 and open the copy you just created on C:
  2. Create a code dictionary
    1. Select Data->Activity Codes.
    2. Create values for RESP exactly as shown on the next figure.
    3. 2. Assign a responsibility code to each activity

    4. Check View-> Activity Form.
    5. Using the network on the first page, assign a Resp code value to each activity. The following figure shows the assignment for activity C20.
    6. Once you have assigned codes to all activities, you can remove the activity from view.
  3. Create an activity ID dictionary
    1. Select Data-> Activity Codes.
    2. Select the Activity ID radio button as shown below.
    3. Fill out the information on the form exactly as shown.

     

  4. Group by activity code
    1. Select Format-> Organize and replace the existing information exactly by the one shown in the following figure. Use black letters on a light background.

  6. Create a resource dictionary
    1. Select Data-> Resources.
    2. Fill out the form exactly as shown on the next figure.

     

  7. Assign resources to each activity
    1. Right-click on any (table) item of the first activity.
    2. Select Activity Detail-> Resources
    3. On the form, fill out the Resource line first, then the units per day. You can look up the units per day from the network on the first page. Do not fill out any other line, since P3 will automatically compute them. The next figure shows this process for activity C20.
    4. Continue this process by clicking on each activity, and then entering the appropriate amount of the resource. You can close the Resource form (window) at any time by clicking on the X at the top.

     

  8. Format the columns to show resource information
    1. Select Format-> Columns.
    2. Include the columns shown on the figure of Step 8 d), using the same process of Lab 2.

     

  9. Display a resource table
    1. Select View-> Resource Table
    2. On the Resource/Profile Table window, click on Display…
    3. Fill out the window form exactly as follows. Notice that the time interval has been set to weeks, and what is displayed is the total units used in each week.

    5. Your screen should look as shown on the next figure. Adjust the timescale if necessary.

     

     

  10. Print the resource table
    1. What you see is not what you get! Select File-> Page Setup and make sure that it is identical to the following figure. Also, go to File-> Print Setup to specify landscape printing.
    2. You can now select File-> Print Preview your output and then print it out.

     

  11. Display a combined histogram/cumulative curve
  12. This process is very similar to displaying the resource table.

    1. Select View-> Resource Profile.
    2. On the Resource/Profile Table window, click on Display…
    3. Fill out the window form exactly as shown on the next figure. The combined histogram/cumulative curve will display.

  13. Print the combined histogram/cumulative curve
    1. The settings that you already specified for your table printout are still valid. Just verify your work on File-> Print Preview and print your current view.
  14. Level the schedule
    1. Select Tools-> Level…
    2. On the resulting window (Resource Leveling), accept the defaults but check the "Schedule prior to leveling" option. Then click on Resources…
    3. On the resulting Resource Selection window, click on All Res.
    4. Press OK on all windows. The schedule will be leveled (If you want to "unlevel" your schedule back to the original status, select Tools-> Schedule… and schedule your project as usual).
  15. Print out the leveled histogram
    1. Simply select File-> Print Preview and print the view with the leveled schedule.
  16. Copy the project to your M:\P3 directory
    1. Follow the same process used in Lab 2.
