Goals

  1. To understand and apply the concepts and tools of construction planning, scheduling and cost control, emphasizing the Critical Path Method.
  2. To familiarize the student with computer programs for scheduling and cost control.
  3. To foster teamwork among students.
  4. To bring about a lasting understanding of all the above.

Objectives

At the end of the semester, students with a passing grade will be able to:

  1. Break down a typical construction project into activities, and assign their corresponding durations and dependencies.
  2. Perform manual scheduling computations using the Critical Path Method.
  3. Use efficiently at least one scheduling software.
  4. Load a project schedule with resource and cost information.
  5. Update a project schedule.
  6. Use the Critical path Method to rationally expedite the schedule.
  7. Know how to control costs using Earned Value Analysis.
  8. Understand the limitations of the Critical Path Method.
