MIchael Van Valkenburgh

Michael Van Valkenburgh pursues a lifelong interest in landscape as a living design medium that deepens and enriches people’s lives – in cities, on campuses, in gardens, and elsewhere. Michael oversees Cambridge and New York Offices, and is involved on some level with every project his firm undertakes.

Michael has recently been awarded the 2003 National Design Award in Environmental Design by the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. He is a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome and is the Charles Eliot Professor of Landscape Architecture and Professor in Practice at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design School, where he has taught since 1982, serving as Chairman of the Department of Landscape Architecture from 1991-1996.

Chip Sullivan

Chip Sullivan is a Professor of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning in the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Sullivan is the author of Drawing the Landscape and Garden and Climate.

"Drawing is, and should continue to be, the foundation for the creative process; it is a visual technology. The necessity for establishing the importance of drawing and perception as a tool for creativity cannot be overstated. It is a legitimate visual study and Landscape Architecture is a 3-Dimensional ART FORM. Perhaps now more than ever we need to promote drawing as a technology in order to compete on equal footing with the high energy electronic technologies for funding and attention."
