Fertilizer

     Nitrogen (NH4+) has been shown to increase bioavailability of Cd (Lorenz, 1994) This could be due to the pH lowering effect in the soil upon dissociaton of N with H+ (Busch, 1985). Lorenz (1994) also showed a positive correlation between pottasium application and Cd bioavailability, although the mechanism is not clear.
