The following pages describe a trip taken by myself and my good friend Dave Burns
        just after our college graduation in the early summer of 1999 to a little-visited national
        park in southeasern Utah aptly called Canyonlands.  We spent several days backpacking
        through the maze of canyons in the Needles District, as well as several days biking the
        trails throughout the region.  We expected adventure and fun, as well as a chance to
        experience a truly unique part of the country. The journal I kept during the trip is
        contained in the following pages.
