In 2002, Kelly worked as a part time coach for Weber State D2 again, losing in OT to Colorado University in the National semifinals and securing another third place finish nationally for Weber State.
In 2003, Kelly moved back to British Columbia and helped coach Penticton AAA Midgets to the league title for the first time in 18 years. He also helped coach Weber State's D1 team to a #5 finish at Nationals during their first year in Division 1.
In 2004, Kelly and his family moved back to the US, settling in Colorado. He took the year off of coaching to help settle his family, but in 2005, helped coach Weber D1, finishing the year in the #6 spot.
Coach Newton has a Masters Coaching level with USA Hockey. He lives with his beautiful wife Suzanne, daughters Sierra & Kennedy, and son Joshua in Monument, CO. Coach Newton is looking forward to a strong season at CSU, hoping to bring the National title back to Colorado State.
