Symbol Rock

Symbol Rock is a documentary text, based on extensive research,
and capturing the voices of dozens of real-life informants.
It contains text, color pictures, old family pictures, music and even audiotapes of the heroes
telling about the ranching life of the early twentieth century.
The CD excerpts and illustrates a much longer text currently
being written by Jon Thiem: Rabbit Creek Ranch: Three Lives.

In this hypertext, you play the role of a hiker who stumbles upon an abandoned ranch in the foothills of the Rockies.
Intrigued by the mystery that seems to emanate from the picturesque ruins
you decide to embark on a biographical quest.
Retracing the steps of the research conducted by Jon Thiem,
you will investigate the life of the people who lived in this ranch:
rancher John Elliott, his wife Ida, their son Orville, and Josephine Lamb, Orville’s schoolteacher,
who lived with the couple as a menage a trois for over forty years.
Where will you find information ? At first the leads are few,
but every discovery will multiply the threads,
open new windows, and thicken the net in which
you are trying to catch the butterflies of bygone days.

Each of the frames corresponds to an episode.
When the episode has been explored, part of a hidden picture reveals itself,
and new frames become available for investigation.
Will the completed picture reveal the secret of Rabbit Creek Ranch ?
