Site 33 with high school in background.

Site 33 is located along the eastern side of the Yana Machi River, 1 km downstream from and to the northeast of the village of Porco. This site has been severely damaged by erosion as well as construction activities associated with the adjacent high school. It is the only substantial residential site encountered during survey that has not yet been mapped or excavated. The poorly preserved remains of 11 rectangular, stone foundations, as well as a large rectangular plaza are visible on the surface. An examination of the river bank revealed additional cultural deposits buried under .5 to 1 meter of alluvium. The presence of single-room rectangular structures suggests that the site was originally constructed under the Inkas, but the lack of additional diagnostic material visible on the surface makes this interpretation highly provisional.
