SITE DIRECTORY

6. When a huayrachina has become badly cracked by frequent firings and exposure to the elements, it is broken apart and discarded nearby. Sites where huayrachinas once stood contain small boulders that had been used to make the huayrachina base or to construct a wind break, irregular pieces of the huayrachina itself (usually vitrified and sometimes with slag adhering on the interior), small, slightly glassy lumps of slag, and pieces of charcoal.
