Boris
Kalinikos' permanent position is with the St. Petersburg Electrotechnical
University in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He is professor and
Head of the Department of Electron-Ion Processing of Solids.
His scientific interests lie in the field of linear and nonlinear
spin waves in magnetic films and their applications for microwave
signal processing. Currently, He is with Colorado State University's
Magnetics group as a Visiting Professor. Professor Kalinikos
first visit to CSU was for four months in 1990 as a Fulbright
Professor. From that time he has maintained a fruitful collaboration
with the group. In the years 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997,
and 1998 he was working in the lab together with his colleague
Dr. Nikolai Kovshikov. Those visits were under the NATO Linkage
Grant Program. They studied spin wave envelope solitons in
ferrite films. their work was, they believe, very successful.
At least, they enjoyed it very much. He likes the international
flavor of the group. He believes that a cooperation between
cultures is necessary. At the moment, he is working on self-
generation of envelope black solitons. He have many friends
here. he enjoys his stays in Ft.Collins very much. He likes
the sunny weather, picturesque mountains and national parks.
Here it is easy to jump from civilization to what he considers
the real world - the wilderness.
