During the summer and fall 1998, nearly 1000 children from a number of local schools visited the excavations at the Kaplan-Hoover site. This page highlights the diversity of perspectives that these younger students brought to the research project. It will also give you some idea of what to expect when we're doing field work -- there will no doubt be many visitors to the site this spring, and you'll be expected to help tell them about what we're doing and what we hope to learn from the site. Remember that when visitors are at the site, they will be taking away a perception of you, of college students in general, of Colorado State University, and of archaeology. Please help us give them a positive experience.

"I didn't think there would be so many bones!"

"My favorite thing about the bonebed were the skulls. I liked the great big horns on them. How did you decide that you wanted to be an archaeologist?"
"I was very surprised when I saw all the bones. I was also amazed when you told us that you could tell what time period the bones came from"

"I liked seeing all of the different types of bones from the bison."
"The bones were really cool and I couldn't get my mind off the teeth. I hope you find more bones on the hill"
"I was surprised at how many bones there were. I learned that the bones are softer than the dirt. I loved talking to all the students."

"It was pretty cool to get to see the CSU students studying to be archaeologists in the progress of digging up a huge herd of long-ago-bison."

"I learned a lot about the tools you use to dig up the bones."
"Will the CSU students get a reward for the research?"

"I like the intir boandbed it was graet to see all thoas boan. What are your parters names?"
