2003 to date: Research Associate, Dr. Vivanco's Lab, Colorado State University

Research Interests:
As a research associate my work includes looking for bioactive compounds from plant root exudates. I have helped to characterize the phytotoxicity and antimicrobial properties of (+/-)-catechin and am currently conducting studies to determine mechanisms of catechin resistance in tolerant plants. My thesis project involves creating strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa that have reporter genes fused to promoters from genes involved in quorum sensing and virulence of this pathogen. These strains will then be used to screen plant root exudates for antiinfective compounds or quorum-sensing inhibitors.
