HY 304 ANCIENT ROME
The History of Ancient Rome from the Etruscan Period
to the Late Empire stressing political, legal, social, economic
and cultural achievements.
HY 492.004 CAPSTONE SEMINAR
FALL OF THE ROMAN REPUBLIC
Students will hone their skills as historians by researching,
discussing, and writing about the last years of the Roman Republic,
between Sulla's march on Rome in 88 BCE to the batttle of Actium
in 31 BCE. The historical approach and the topic of the primary
research within this time period will depend upon each student's
own interests. For example, students may want to do research in
military, social, economic, political or intellectual history. Emphasis
will be given to refining those abilities that allow historians
to make sophisticated historical arguments in both written and spoken
form. These abilities include (but are not limited to) forming argumentative
theses, finding, using and properly citing evidence, and critically
analyzing both primary sources and modern scholarship.
It is STRONGLY recommended that students who have
not already studied Roman history enroll concurrently in HY 304.
HY 170 WORLD HISTORY, ANCIENT-1500

societies from the ancient period to 1500 CE. The syllabus and all
the information for this course will be available via WebCT
and therefore, only visible to students enrolled in the course.
