Instructions for WebCT Discussions |
||
| Visit the website, http://webctce.colostate.edu/. Click "Log onto mywebCT." When it asks for your WebCT id, type in your eid. Your password should be the same as the password you use to access your campus e-mail (If you have problems at this stage the professor cannot help you. You need to return to the entry page and figure out how to get help.). You should see HY 306 listed among your classes. Click on the course
and you will be directed to the For further technical instructions on using WebCT consult the WebCT
main page and click "Student To Compose a Discussion Message On the discussion tool click, "Compose Discussion Message" Under "Topic" make sure to choose the appropriate date. Under "Subject" try to use an informative subject line so anyone reading it will know immediately what you are talking about. Also, please check spelling in the subject heading. Then type your own argument. STRUCTURE. Use correct English spelling, grammar and structure. A couple of html codes will make your argument easier to read (from a
purely physical point of view):
To Read a Discussion Message Simply click on the discussion subject. Please notice that you can view the list of messages in a threaded or an unthreaded way. If you view in a threaded way you will only see the original postings on the list (not all of the replies to that particular posting). If you view unthreaded then you will see all of the postings in chronological order. To Reply to a Discussion Message Click reply. Type your reply and preview it, fix any errors and post
it. Use the reply button only if you are replying to what is in that message,
otherwise, start a new thread. Students have been known to lose messages before they get posted and have to type them all over again. This happens, for example, when you want to view another posting before you are finished with your own. If you do this your own message may vanish. To avoid this problem, it may be worthwhile to type your message in a word processing program and copy and paste it onto the WebCT. Make sure to preview the message in the discussion tool so that you are assured the pasting went as you hoped. One advantage to using a word processing program is that you will be able to spell check your posting (but please remember that you are smarter than your computer). Miscellanious Cautionary Remarks WebCT opens a single new window for discussion messages and calendar links. If you leave that window open and click on a different link or posting, then that same window will open onto the new linked page or posting. Also, be aware that the window may already be opened and minimized at the bottom of your screen. |
