Ptolemy Reading Assignments
due Thursday, September 21

return to HY306 schedule page

Do as much of the reading as you can, so that you can understand and question the contributions of the other students, but know best the reading assigned to you in particular.

Each individual should come to class on Thursday prepared to lecture to the class for 5 minutes on her or his particular subject. Since you will have only 5 minutes, consider what the most important points to make are and make them as succinctly as possible. Please, practice your lecture before you come to class so that you are certain it lasts only 5 minutes (you will be cut off if you go beyond the alotted time). The professor will collect all lecture notes at the end of class, so please type them. Lecture notes should include reference to particular texts by their number in the book and by the line or section number where applicable.

Purpose of the assignment: close analytical reading of ancient texts; broad overview of the Ptolemies; ability to select essential points that characterize Ptolemaic (or Hellenistic) rule.

You will also be expected to listen to what others say so that if they touch upon a similar topic you can refer to that argument or information as well as to your notes.
