Due date: 9 AM Wednesday, March 24.

E-mail or paper submissions are acceptable, but keep a copy for your records.

Directions for the introductory paragraph:

For the title, please pose a "Why?" question.

Introduce the general topic. Narrow the topic of the paragraph down until you reach the thesis (the answer to the "Why?" question). Please make the thesis in all CAPS. One way to conceptualize your introduction is to think about the way you presented (or were supposed to present) your topic. What is the larger context to which your thesis belongs?

In that same paragraph or in a second paragraph, provide an essay map. An essay map tells your reader how you will argue your thesis. It is sort of like a mini-outline only in paragraph form and usually it tries to justify itself. For example, "In order to prove my thesis I will start by examining..., then ..." and so on. In other words, tell the reader the order in which you are saying things, and also why you are saying them.
