Editing and Printing PDF files

Printing the syllabus, homeworks etc (HTML files)... - If your web browser (e.g., Netscape or I.E.) prints the "index" on the left, rather than the syllabus or homework assignment on the right, the problem is due to your operation of your browser.  The web pages are arranged in frames, and your browser is not smart enough to know which frame you want to print.  To direct the browser, you must first direct the browsers "focus" to the correct frame.  To do that, first click on the background of the frame you wish to print.  For example, to print the syllabus, first click on the background of the syllabus, then select "Print" from the "File" menu.

Printing Formulas and Class notes (PDF files) -
These are "PDF" files and can be read only if the Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in is installed on your computer.  ITS tells me that all labs on campus have the Acrobat reader.  To print these files, you must use the print icon for Acrobat Reader, which is in the frame which contains the document you are printing.

Many documents on the web -- documents that don't easily translate to HTML -- are in this format.  If you would like to install the Acrobat Reader on your own computer, you can do so by going to Adobe's website and download the "free plug-in" called "Acrobat Reader".
If you want to print more pages per sheet that is displayed on your screen, try clicking "properties" from the "print" menu.  You should have an option to print 2 (or more) pages per sheet (if you printer driver is from the last few years).

Editing (and taking notes in) PDF files
If you would like to take notes on your computuer, you may be interested in editing the PDF notes that I have available for distribution.  One great way to do that is to use Microsoft Office Onenote, which allows you to draw graphs as well as add text anywhere on a page.  This is quicker and easier than trying to edit the original powerpoint files. This handy note taking tools comes with academic versions of Microsoft Office.  You can import the PDF files into Onenote by opening the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat and then printing the file to the Onenote printer driver.  If you search the web for "Import files into notes with the OneNote print driver"  you should be able to find the instructions on Microsoft's web site for how to do that.
