EXPERTISE

General plant propagation, plant tissue culture and micropropagation. Plant genetics and breeding. Germplasm preservation. Small fruit culture. Applied plant biotechnology-transformation with particle gun and Agrobacterium, as well as DNA fingerprinting using RAPD technology.

Instructor in numerous courses; currently instructor in Basic Horticulture, Plant Propagation, Plant Tissue Culture, Plant Breeding, Fruit Crop Production, and Germplasm Preservation courses.
Instructor for Tissue Culture for Crops Project training courses in plant tissue culture. Coauthored the training manual.
Advisor or co-advisor to 25 (8 Ph.D., 17 M.S.) graduate students who completed their degrees and 6 (2 Ph.D., 4 M.S.) currently in progress.
Published over 40 refereed articles on plant propagation, tissue culture, breeding and small fruit culture. Published over 30 nonrefereed, extension articles and numerous local and regional presentations to growers groups.
Presented 75 reports at Horticultural and Plant Tissue Culture national and international meetings. Consultant to plant propagators, both traditional as well as tissue culture.
Invited speaker to National Council for Therapy and Rehabilitation through Horticulture Conference on Fruit Crop Uses, 1985.
Invited speaker to North African Conference on Date Palm Propagation, sponsored by FAO, October of 1989.
Adviser to 7 students, both graduate and undergraduate, who have won awards for research at regional and national meetings.
