ICL Lab Rules

  • To use the ICL all that is necessary is for you to sign in with your name, date, time, and what you will be doing (i.e. Internet, e-mail, word processing) and sign out with the time. A sign-in sheet will be located at the front desk.
  • No food or drink is allowed in the lab.
  • No copying or use of unauthorized software. Pirating, using, or duplicating programs, documents, or files without license or agreement on behalf of the author, programmer, or cooperation who publishes such software is illegal and is not tolerated.
  • People with CSU-related work have top priority in the lab. People doing things as personal e-mail, "surfing the web", or doing personal business have the lowest priority in the lab. Please be considerate of others.
  • The ICL is a work and study environment, just like the library or other buildings on campus. Loud noise, disruptive behavior, etc. Is not tolerated and may cause you to be ejected from the lab.
  • Please conserve on paper. There is no charge for printing, but do realize that this paper is costly, and everyone needs to share it. Spell check and proofread your documents before printing, and try to limit the number of copies you print. Recycle all paper not needed in the cardboard bins. Be careful when printing from the Internet, print only what you need from the web page (eg. print selection, print frame, or cut and paste); If you need help ask the Lab Assistant.
ICL General Policies
  • ICL is not responsible for missed deadlines, lost or missing data, or any other computer-related problems that may inhibit the project that you were working on. Please realize that you need to save often, backup your files elsewhere (i.e. floppy, zip, server, other computer), and take preventative measures to stop these things from happening. Hard drives crash, floppies fail, power goes out, computers crash, and people make mistakes. Keep this in mind when working.
  • ICL employees reserve the right to remove any file, program, or piece of software from any computer or machine.
  • ICL employees reserve the right to remove anyone from the lab at any time for any reason. Although this has never happened before, unruly users, people who violate the lab's rules, or unauthorized users will be asked to leave. CSUPD can be called if necessary.
  • ICL employees reserve the right to revoke lab privileges to anyone who violates the lab's rules. Depending on the severity of the case, Ingersoll Hall Management or the RHA may take further action.
  • ICL employees reserve the right to change, add, or remove rules or policies as needed. These are subject to change without notice.
ICL Internet Policies

  • Non-school related Internet use has a lower priority in the lab, and personal projects (e-mail, IRC, etc.) have the lowest priority in the lab.
  • MUDs, MUSHs, MOOs and any other gaming are not allowed in the lab. This is a university computer lab, not an arcade; keep this in mind.
  • Inappropriate or offensive Internet sites (i.e. racist, sexist, prejudicial, hateful, violence-oriented, pornographic) offend some people. While the First Amendment is a guaranteed right to all, if someone asks you to exit or quit the particular site where you are at, please do so promptly.
  • All ICL rules also apply to all Internet-related functions in the lab
