E-mail Listserver (Mailing List) |
The U.S. Metric Association (USMA) Listserver has been set up to serve USMA members and others with e-mail addresses who want to exchange metric information. Messages addressed to the Listserver are routed to all subscribers to the list. Subscribers receive messages sent by all other subscribers to the list, as well as copy of their own messages.
The Listserver is meant to promote communication between USMA members and others interested in metrication. The subscribers alone determine the volume and content of messages. One cautionary note: remember that all subscribers receive all messages you send to the list. If you want to carry on a personal conversation with an individual on the USMA list, please do so outside of the USMA Listserver by mailing directly to his/her e-mail address. This reduces the volume of unnecessary messages being sent to all of the list subscribers.
Users can join the Listserver in one of two ways:
Then, after you are subscribed, you can send e-mail messages to other subscirbers by the following method:
To subscribe to the USMA Listserver, send an e-mail message to:
listserv@ColoState.edu
The e-mail message should include only one line in the body of the message (leaving the subject line blank):
subscribe USMA first_name last_name
First_name and last_name is your common name. Do not put your e-mail address on this line. The Listserver automatically gets your e-mail address from your message header. Rather, please put your name on this line.
Example: subscribe USMA John Doe
To unsubscribe from the USMA Listserver, send an e-mail message to:
listserv@ColoState.edu
The e-mail message should include only one line in the body of the message (leaving the subject line blank):
unsubscribe USMA
Do not put your e-mail address or name on this line. The Listserver automatically gets your e-mail address from your message header.
You can also receive USMA Listserver messages in digest form. Digests are sent daily in one large file and include a listing of the messages at the top, before the beginning of the first message. To do this, you must first subscribe to the Listserver as instructed above.
To change your USMA Listserver subscription to digest form send an e-mail message to:
listserv@ColoState.edu
The e-mail message should include only one line in the body of the message (leaving the subject line blank):
set USMA mail digest
To change your USMA Listserver subscription back to the default no-digest form send an e-mail message to:
listserv@ColoState.edu
The e-mail message should include only one line in the body of the message (leaving the subject line blank):
set USMA mail no-digest
This is the default setting for list subscriptions.
After you have subscribed, you can send a message to all other list subscribers (including yourself) by addressing your message to:
USMA@ColoState.edu
Note: Please be aware of the difference between this e-mail address for sending a message to other list subscribers, and the other e-mail address used to service list subscriptions (subscribe, unsubscribe, digest, and no-digest).
Note also: Subscribers are urged to not send HTML-formatted mail to the listserv. To see the reasons why and to receive help configuring your e-mail to not send HTML-formatted files, please see the link: mconfig.htm.

Sponsorship: The U.S. Metric Association (USMA), Inc. sponsors the USMA Listserver by allowing its name and acronym to be used. However, the USMA has no control over the content of list messages. Not all list subscribers are USMA members, and list messages reflect the personal opinions of the particular individuals giving them. All opinions are informal and Listserver messages do not speak on behalf of USMA, nor do the opinions constitute official or unofficial USMA policy, nor should they substitute for official interpretations by the USMA.
