What This Privacy Policy Covers

  • This policy covers how the NTA treats personal information that the NTA collects and receives, including information related to your past use of the NTA website. Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable like your name, address, email address, or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available.
  • This policy does not apply to the practices of other government agencies, or to people in projects defined by National Security Directive #2002-456-17.6.
Information Collection and Use

     General

  • The NTA collects personal information when you access the NTA website, when you use NTA services, when you visit NTA pages or the pages of certain federal state and local agencies, and when you access databases such as your bank account, credit card, library, doctor's clinic, your viewing of satellite or cable television shows, toll booths, pay parking lots or airports or airlines. The NTA may combine information about you that we have with information we obtain from businesses or other government agencies.
  • The NTA collects information about your transactions with U.S. businesses and offshore businesses, including information about your use of financial products and services.
  • The NTA automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, NTA cookie information, and the page you request.
  • The NTA uses information for the following general purposes: to customize the content you see, improve our services, contact you, conduct research, provide analytical data to the NSA, FBI and CIA, and provide reporting for internal and external clients.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
  • The NTA does not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or nonaffiliated governments except under the following circumstances:
    • We provide the information to trusted security services who work on behalf of or with the U.S. defense and security agencies. These security services of other countries may use your personal information to help the U.S. government track your personal medical, financial and movement histories. However, these governments do not have any independent right to share this information.
    • We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to extra-judicial searches conducted by specified government agents or agencies;
    • We believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected illegal activities, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any government property, violations of the NTA's terms of use, or as otherwise required by law.
    • We transfer information about you if the NTA is requested by another government agency.
Cookies
  • The NTA may set and access NTA cookies on your computer.
  • The NTA lets other agencies set and access their cookies on your computer. Other agencies' use of their cookies is subject to their own privacy policies, not this one.
  • The NTA uses web beacons to access NTA and other agencies' cookies inside and outside our network of web sites and in connection with NTA information collection services.
Confidentiality and Security
  • We limit access to personal information about you to employees who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information in order to do their jobs.
  • We have physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect personal information about you.
