What Does Our Group Do? We are a diverse gathering with interests in pagan spiritualities. At our meetings we discuss topics related to paganism, such as magick, divination, religious paths, pagan sexuality, occult philosophy, and other topics of pagan interest. We plan to organize movie nights, rituals to celebrate pagan festivals, trips to Denver to visit pagan shops, as well as community projects. We are an open-minded, relaxed group of people that welcome anyone to join our discussions and our fun. |

What is Paganism? Briefly, we define paganism as a term describing the collective religious and spiritual paths of people following traditions that tend to be polytheistic, earth-based, and incorporate sexual equality. The term "pagan" originally meant "of the country", referring to those who lived outside the city of Rome; however, with the advent of Christianity in Rome it soon came to mean anyone not of the Christian faith. Open practice of paganism by Europeans was largely extinguished during the middle ages, but some traditions remained popular such as fertility symbols (eggs and rabbits) at Easter and decorating trees at Christmas. Paganism experienced a resurgence of popularity in western culture during the 1950's and beyond with Gerald Gardner's witchcraft movement; Wicca, as we know it, was cultivated by Doreen Valiente. Today, pagans are comprised of Wiccans, Asatru (i.e. Heathens), Druids, Goddess worshippers, Kitchen Witches, Shamans, and Sacred Ecologists, along with many others that incorporate beliefs of the ancient Celts, Egyptians, Mediterraneans and other cultures. Due to historical persecution and misrepresentation we find it necessary to briefly note that pagans are not evil nor do we believe in the Christian Satan. More accurately, pagans generally undertake great efforts to respect the earth, her gifts, and all those who live in her care. Many, many books have been written on the subject of paganism and we encourage you to perform your own research if you are interested (see our Book List for some suggestions on where to get started). |
