More
than 11,000 acres, or roughly 29 percent of the Winiger Ridge Project area, is held by private landowners. Ownership includes mountain
subdivisions of various lot sizes, small ranchettes of 60 acres or less and patented mining claims for a total human population of about 2,500
people.
With so much
of the land held in private ownership, a landscape-based project simply cannot
be successful without the continued and expanded cooperation of these private
citizens. Already, there has been significant work done on private lands with
