Boulder County
has provided significant technical and administrative support to this
partnership effort. With Walker Ranch and the Reynolds Ranch/Roger’s
properties in the project area, county resource managers are implementing
numerous projects including thinning, prescribed burns and noxious weed control.
These practices were particularly instrumental in helping firefighters control
the 1,000-acre Eldorado/Walker Ranch fire in September 2000. The Parks and Open
Space Department will continue to implement fire rehabilitation activities this
winter to prevent erosion and water quality problems in the South Boulder Creek
watershed.
The principal
contact in the Winiger Ridge Project area for Boulder County is Randy
Coombs. Randy is a senior resource specialist and forester with the Boulder
County Parks and Open Space Department. Randy has represented Boulder County’s
interest in the Winiger Ridge Project since its inception. He is responsible for
overseeing the management activities on the Walker Ranch and Reynolds Ranch
properties. Randy has been instrumental in the accomplishment of forest
management and prescribed fire projects and works closely with the other
partners of the Boulder County Ecosystem Cooperative. He can be reached at 303-441-3964.
