Structure to Experience Landscape: Garden Feature Design and Construction Design a wooden garden folly, garden pavilion, piece of garden furniture, or other garden structure with the purpose of experiencing something special about a landscape. Provide drawings that specify all materials, attachments, and finishes, for the feature. The garden feature should be intended for, and respect the context of your personal garden, the garden of a family member or close friend, or a landscape of interest to you. Please express the sensibility and craft, in the design and construction of the object, that you would expect from someone else (if they were to do this for you). Drawings should occur as working (evolving) drawings at a scale of 1/2" = 1', and should represent all aspects of the garden feature. A final selection of construction details will be included at the conclusion of the project (8 1/2" x 11" sheets). A model at the scale of 1" = 1' will be constructed and represent All (accurate) building members, materials, attachments, and finishes. If 2" x 12" floor joists are required at a spacing of 16" O.C. above 6" x 12" beams, then the model will include 1/6" x 1" floor joists (spaced at 1-1/3") above 1/2" x 1" beams to reflect the accurate building components in the scale model representation. The product will include a project description, photographs of the completed scale model and selected drawings (see example handout) - as a paper document and as a .pdf (8 1/2" x 11" format) document on your web site.
