Students at Colorado State University are responsible for knowing and understanding on-line registration procedures that allow them to register for courses each semester. It is up to each student to register in a timely fashion and increase the possibility of entering high demand courses.

Faculty advisers do not register students.

On faculty advisers, in the Colorado State University General Catalog:

"A faculty adviser provides students with pertinent information about a major and assists in planning a program of study. . . Close cooperation and understanding between student and adviser is to a student's advantage. Therefore, students are responsible for seeking out their advisers for aid in solving academic problems, especially before each registration" (p.81).

The landscape architecture student and their adviser are situated in close proximity throughout a student's academic career. The nature of the studio teaching environment creates an opportunity for student and faculty adviser to have direct association for at least 6 - 8 hours per week in many cases.

Frequently asked questions about advising.

Where can I find my advising code and S M A R T form?

Fall and Spring registration (for Landscape Architecture students):

S M A R T forms, upon publication, may be obtained in the Office of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, room 111, Shepardson Hall. The S M A R T form contains information needed for on-line registration including: earliest date to register, advising code, etc.

I have just chosen landscape architecture as my major, what classes should I take?

It is recommended that students follow the order of the curriculum outline and make informed choices about coursework outside of that order. General studies courses and prerequisite courses should be given highest priority.

mid years

SC240, LA444, PL345, electives (AUCC requirements)

late years

Optional opportunities: LA510, LA520

Specific Landscape Architecture courses (those beginning with the LA prefix) may be taken only in the order of the curriculum, with four exceptions - LA110, LA120, LA454, and LA455. LA110 and LA120 may be taken concurrently with LA230 and LA240. LA454 or LA455 (or NR220) may be taken during any summer.

The curriculum requirements have changed since the time I started the program, what do I need to graduate?

The Landscape Architecture faculty and other reviewing entities are constantly revising the curriculum to provide a responsible and contemporary education for the aspiring landscape architect. Course requirements occasionally change to reflect a higher quality academic experience. Frequent review (by the student) of the curriculum will minimize anxiety about changing courses as one nears graduation.

"Students are held for curricular requirements (including AUCCrequirements) as set forth in the current catalog at the time of graduation, except 1) if so doing will extend the time normally required to complete the degree; or 2) if so doing will force students classified as juniors or seniors to take additional lower-division courses, exclusive of AUCC requirements" (Colorado State University General Catalog, p. 69).
