If we are to achieve a richer culture, rich in contrasting values, we must recognize the whole gamut of human potentialities, and so weave a less arbitrary social fabric, one in which each diverse human gift will find a fitting place. It is in the spirit of Margaret Mead's words that the AEJMC Public Relations Division has endeavored to enhance its diversity through the Inez Kaiser Graduate Student of Color Awards. These awards honor Inez Kaiser, the first African-American woman to belong to PRSA and to head a PR agency with national clients. These awards provide graduate students of color with free one-year memberships in AEJMC and PRD. Students receive all the publications and usual benefits of membership. The goals of the Inez Kaiser Awards are to encourage these students' academic career aspirations by involving them in AEJMC and PRD, while also broadening the diversity of voices within PRD. As the 2004 Kaiser co-chairs, we are inviting PR faculty to support this award by sponsoring a student (or two!). A $60 donation is all that is needed to provide one eligible graduate student with a year's membership. I am also requesting that faculty recommend graduate students who they would like to nominate for an award. Eligible graduate student of color must be stydying or researching public relations at the graduate level. Students may be itnernational or American students. pursuing a graduate degree in PR. Students may be international or American students. If you would like to either donate money for an award (or two!) or nominate a student (or more!), please use this form. Please return it to me by the May 15, 2004 deadline:
