Manuscript Submission Guidelines
The format for submissions should be 2 Word documents attached to an email addressed to the Editor, Linda Aldoory, Department of Communication, University of Maryland, at: laldoory@umd.edu.
1) Attachment 1 should include two pages: a) first page is a cover letter that states that the findings reported in the manuscript are original, contribute to the broad body of knowledge in public relations, and have not been published previously. Authors should also state that they have complied with American Psychological Association ethical standards in the treatment of their samples. b) second page should have the manuscript title, institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s), the word count of the manuscript (including references), and author contact details (including full postal addresses).
2) Attachment 2 should have an abstract and the manuscript text including references. To allow for anonymous refereeing, do not include any text in this document (including in its headers, footers and references) that would indicate the manuscript's authorship.
As well as removing author identity from the text within the document, please remove any identifying information automatically recorded in the document's properties. To see if Microsoft Word is recording name, pull down the "File" menu, click on "Properties," and select the "Summary" tab. Remove any identifying information and then save the file.
Prepare manuscripts according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). Type all components of the manuscript double‑spaced, including title page, abstract, text, quotes, acknowledgments, references, appendices, tables, figure captions, and footnotes. The abstract should be no more than 100 words that can be understood by public relations practitioners and scholars not familiar with the theory and method of the article.
Editorial Scope
The Journal of Public Relations Research publishes research that creates, tests, or expands public relations theory. Manuscripts may include: examinations of why organizations practice public relations as they do and how public relations can be conducted more effectively; analysis of public relations publics; scholarly criticism of public relations practice; and development of the history, ethics, or philosophy of public relations. Two kinds of articles can be submitted: reviews of major programs of research (35‑60 manuscript pages) and reports of original research (up to 35 manuscript pages). All methodologies are appropriate, including social‑scientific, historical, legal, philosophical, and critical. The Journal is produced for the Public Relations Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) in cooperation with public relations educators in International Communication Association, National Communication Association, the Public Relations Society of America, and the International Association of Business Communicators.
Audience Public relations scholars, students, and practitioners, as well as students and professionals in allied communication and mass communication disciplines.
Permissions Authors are responsible for all statements made in their work and for obtaining permission from copyright owners to reprint or adapt a table or figure or to reprint a quotation of 500 words or more. Authors should write to original author(s) and publisher to request nonexclusive world rights in all languages to use the material in the article and in future editions. Provide copies of all permissions and credit lines obtained.
Tables Tables must be typed out on separate sheets and not included within the text. The captions to illustrations should be gathered together and also typed out on a separate sheet. Tables and Figures should be numbered consecutively by Arabic numerals. The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the manuscript. Captions should include keys to any symbols used.
Figures Please supply one set of artwork in a finished form, suitable for reproduction. Figures will not normally be redrawn by the publisher
