Winterfest 2008 - Condo Arrangements for ACF's Group

February 29 - March 2, 2008

This page contains information for those coming to the 2008 Adventist Winterfest event and staying in the condos arranged by Adventist Christian Fellowship (ACF), a student organization at Colorado State University. This is the sixth year that ACF has arranged Winterfest lodging for our group - we are glad that you will be able to join us. Jonathan Vigh is coordinating the various aspects for our group this year, so if you have any questions please contact him: (585)808-8972 or

Winterfest Overview

Winterfest is an event put on by the Rocky Mountain Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (RMCSDA) each year, providing the opportunity for hundreds of Adventist youth and young adults from across North America to come together for worship, fun, and skiing. This year's program includes vespers Friday night, a creative and vibrant worship service on Sabbath, followed by a free lunch, and several options for Saturday afternoon activities. Our group will likely go snowshoeing on Sabbath afternoon. Saturday night, some may go ice skating or play games and enjoy the hot tub. Most of our group will ski at Copper Mountain on Sunday.

The main programs are aimed towards the high school group (a lot of the sponsors of Winterfest are various Adventist colleges and universities), but each year, hundreds of collegiates (and older) come up for the weekend. Several of the Adventist Colleges put on alumni gatherings (very nice dinners for free!). All in all, it's a great excuse to come up and hang out with lots of enthusiastic people. You're likely to see many old friends and make many new ones.

Here is the Winterfest Information Page from the Rocky Mountain Conference website.

Lodging Details

The condo ("Silvertree 19") has been rented in the Wildernest complex which is a couple miles up the hill from the Silverthorne exit (#205) on I-70. This condo has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and a loft (click here for pictures of the condo). There are beds for 10 people (one King bed, one Queen bed, two twin beds, and two queen sofa sleepers). Most people will be able to have a bed if they are okay with sharing a bed, but several people will be on the floor. We'll try to figure out these details as the time approaches. The condo also has its own private hot tub (!) which I think is out on the balcony.

Food Details

Joy Grabiner has graciously agreed to coordinate the food. If any of you would like to volunteer to help her, I'm sure it will be much appreciated.

We'll provide 3 meals at our condo: Friday night supper, Saturday breakfast, and Sunday breakfast. Saturday's lunch will be provided by the Rocky Mountain Conference at the Summit County High School. People are on their own for Saturday evening, Sunday evening, and Monday morning.

Here is the menu for the weekend:

Friday supper:                     Mexican Stew, salad, dessert.

Sabbath morning breakfast: Tator tots, omelets, scrambled tofu for the vegans, stripples, and fruit and cereal.

Sunday morning breakfast:  Pancakes with toppings like strawberry sauce, applesauce, whipped cream or just plain syrup, and fruit and cereal.

Directions

Here are the directions to the Wildernest (our large condo):

From Denver, take I-70 west for about 76 miles.

Take exit 205, merge RIGHT onto Blue River Pkwy/CO-9 (north) toward Silverthorne. Immediately turn LEFT at Wildernest Drive (I believe this is the next light right after you get off the Interstate). Go approximately a mile or so up a hill (this will be parallel to I-70). Turn RIGHT at the Wildernest Lodging sign (you will see a Sinclair Gas station). Turn immediately LEFT into the parking lot, go all the way down to the double glass doors the hospitality center (204 Wildernest Drive). There they can give you a locator map - you don't need to check in. I think our condo complex (Silvertree) will be about a mile or so further up the road on the LEFT (?). Our unit is Silvertree #19.

Here are directions to the small condo:

From Dillon/Silverthorne exit 205 on I-70, go LEFT off the exit towards Keystone.  Turn RIGHT at Swan Mountain Road (2 miles before Keystone, there is a stop light, and it's at the bottom of a long hill. (This road is a short cut to Breckenridge). Take the 2nd LEFT into Summit Cove.  Then take the 2nd LEFT again into Lake Haus condos.  The condo is in the first building on LEFT. There is one marked (F9) parking spot out front. Others can park across the from the condos in unmarked parking.  There is additional unmarked parking if that is filled up.  You have to drive around to the next set of buildings to get to it. The condo is F9 (downstairs on the RIGHT).

Here are the directions to the Summit County High School:

Go out to I-70, get on the Interstate and go west for 5 miles. Take exit 201 (Breckenridge/Frisco) and take Rt. 9 south. After about 5-7 miles turn right at Swan Mountain Road (this is a stop light). Please park in the approved parking lot, leaving the close in parking for vendors and handicapped.

Price and Payment Information

Based on the total number of people coming, the number of nights they are staying, and the costs we are expending for food (~$170-200) and lodging ($732.90), I am setting the following price structure:

$21    Friday night only (includes Friday supper and breakfast on Saturday)

$55    Friday and Saturday nights (includes Friday supper, breakfast on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday)

$65    Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night (includes Friday supper, breakfast on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday)

$44    Saturday and Sunday nights (includes breakfast on Sunday)

$12    Sunday night only (no meals included)

If per chance we happen to collect slightly more than the total spent, we plan to donate the extra funds to the Campion Academy worthy student fund. If anyone has a problem with this, they can received an individual refund for their share, but I'm guessing this would be less than $2. It's likely that we'll use any additional funds to get extra or better food.

Please send your payment as soon as possible. Make checks out to Jonathan Vigh and send to:

Details on cancellations -- if you have to cancel, I'll gladly refund your money provided that we (or you) can find someone to take your spot. Otherwise, we're sorry, but we will not be able to issue a refund.

Liability Release Forms

Since ACF is an official CSU student organization, everyone staying at our condo needs to sign a liability release waiver. Please download the liability release waiver (and drive information form if you will be driving yourself or others). Please sign it in the presence of a witness and send your form(s) with your payment. We need to have these on file BEFORE you arrive.

Liability Release Waiver     (All participants must sign this form)

Driver Information Form    (Anyone planning to drive needs to also complete this form)

List of Who Is Coming, Suggested Sleeping Arrangements, and Payment and Liability Status

This information will be updated regularly as payments and liability release waivers are received. The sleeping arrangements are merely suggestions - these aren't set in stone yet, so if you have a preference, please let me know. Basically, I've put the couples and the single females in bedrooms when at all possible, and the guys will be out on the sofa sleepers or the floor.

Carpooling Details

We'll try to help arrange carpools for those who need it. If you're driving and have space, please let me know and I'll post your departure times and phone # so that people can contact you about rides.

It sounds like everyone is set for the carpools now.

Skiing Details

Skiing is at your own cost. Most of the group will probably ski at Copper Mountain Resort on Sunday, but I know of a few that are planning to ski at Loveland Basin Ski Area. The window price for Copper Mountain lift tickets is currently $86, but you can buy discounted lift tickets for $48 (good at either Copper Mountain or Winter Park) through the Rocky Mountain Conference website (as of Feb 15, they had 49 left, so if you're going to do this, buy yours soon).

If cost is really important to you, but you'd still like to ski, I have a friend has two Loveland Basin lift tickets she can sell for $25. If you're interested in this, please let Jonathan know (585)808-8972 or

There are some lesser known, smaller ski areas within 12-40 miles of our condo. These resorts have less to offer, but they're also cheaper and might be just fine for beginner skiers.

Ski Cooper               $39 for a full day or $68 for 2 days (about 40 miles away near Leadville)

Loveland Ski Area    $54 for a full day (12 miles east on I-70)

Arapahoe Basin        $58 for a full day (about 12 miles east on US-6)

As far as I can tell, most of our group is skiing at Copper on Sunday. A few will be skiing at Copper on Monday as well, and a couple might ski Loveland Basin.
