ACF's Winter Retreat

March 6-8, 2009

This page contains information for those coming to the 2009 Winter Retreat organized by Adventist Christian Fellowship (ACF), a student organization at Colorado State University. This is the 7th year that ACF has arranged lodging for a winter retreat for our group - we hope you will be able to join us. Jonathan Vigh and Ryan Trott are coordinating the various aspects for our group this year, so if you have any questions please contact them: (585)808-8972 or non machine-readable e-mail image for Jonathan Vigh

Use these quick links to jump to the section you want (more details will be posted as the retreat weekend approaches):

Overview

Winterfest is an event put on by the Rocky Mountain Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (RMCSDA) each year, providing the opportunity for hundreds of Adventist youth and young adults from across North America to come together for worship, fun, and skiing. Due to budget cuts, the conference has cancelled this year's program, but several groups will still be going up that weekend. ACF is organizing our very own winter retreat, with a weekend focus of spiritual emphasis (vespers, worships) and of course, some fun as well. We will be attending church at the Leadville Church on Sabbath, then go snowshoeing out near Tennessee Pass. Saturday night, some will play games and sit in the hot tub, while others will be going ice skating in Keystone. Then on Sunday, some of the group will be skiing or boarding at Copper Mountain.

Lodging Details

ACF has arranged a condo in the Treehouse section of the Wildernest - our unit is Treehouse 304F. Our condo is a little smaller than last year's, with two bedrooms + a loft and 2 baths. There are beds for 10, and we are planning to put a couple people on the floor (one floor spot is already taken, so you'll have to fight it out for the other floor spot :)  Our condo has access to a nearby clubhouse with hot tubs, etc.

We will again be coordinating the food for everyone this year, this time for 5 meals (Friday supper, all three meals on Saturday, and Sunday breakfast).

Directions:

Take I-70 west to Exit #205 (Silverthorne/Dillon Exit). Make a RIGHT off the exit ramp onto Blue River Parkway. Get in LEFT lane.  At the next light, make a LEFT onto Wildernest Road. Continue following this road uphill about 1 Mile to the Wildernest Check-In Center (next to Conoco). You can get a map there - or you can just continue up the road for about a mile and look for the Treehouse complex. I believe that the Treehouse complex is on the left hand side of the road.

If you get lost, call the Wildernest Hospitality Center at (970)468-6291 or my cell phone (585)808-8972. At the check-in center, ask for a map or directions to Treehouse 304F.  The condo is in my name (Jonathan Vigh), and I plan to have it checked in by 5:00 pm Friday.

Liability Release Forms

Since ACF is an official CSU student organization, everyone staying at our condo must sign a liability release waiver. Please download the liability release waiver (and driver information form if you will be driving yourself or others). Please sign it in the presence of a witness and give your form(s) to any ACF officer (Kama, Ryan, Jaimie, or Jonathan) BEFORE departing. If we do not have a signed form from you, you will not be staying with us this weekend.

Liability Release Waiver     (All participants must sign this form)

Driver Information Form    (Anyone planning to drive needs to also complete this form)

Price and Payment Information

Based on the total number of people coming, the number of nights they are staying, and the costs we are expending for food (~$16 per person) and lodging (~$49 per person), we are setting the following price structure:

$65    Friday and Saturday nights (includes Friday supper, all 3 meals on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday)

Send your payment as soon as possible. Your spot will not be reserved until you have paid.

List of Who Is Coming, Suggested Sleeping Arrangements, and Payment and Liability Status

This information will be updated regularly as payments and liability release waivers are received. The sleeping arrangements are merely suggestions - these aren't set in stone yet, so if you have a preference, please let me know. Basically, I've put the couples and the single females in bedrooms when at all possible, and the guys will be out on the sofa sleepers or the floor.

Skiing Details

Skiing is at your own cost. Some our group will probably ski at Copper Mountain Resort on Sunday, but some are planning on coming back early. The window price for Copper Mountain lift tickets is about $86, but you can buy discounted lift tickets for $55 (good at either Copper Mountain or Winter Park) through the Rocky Mountain Conference website (buy this as soon as possible, because it will take time for them to mail it to you). Also, I may be able to get a few people lift tickets for $50 using the coupons on my season pass.

If you have any questions about this, please contact Jonathan (585)808-8972 or Jonathan Vigh's e-mail address in non-machine readable form

As far as I know, the only people skiing Sunday are:

  • Jonathan
  • DeWayne
  • Paul - skiing at Keystone

Snowshoeing Details

We are planning to snowshoe somewhere near Tennessee Pass (near Leadville) on Sabbath afternoon. I am trying to arrange to borrow some snowshoes for those who do not have them, but only expect to be able to borrow 2 or 4 extra pairs. If you would like to borrow a pair, it would be with the understanding that you pay the replacement cost or repair cost should the snowshoe become lost or damaged. (Snowshoes usually run about $150-200). Otherwise, you can rent snowshoes at your own cost for about $10-12 a day. If you arrange with me ahead of time, I might be able to rent several pair when I check in for the condo on Friday.  Those who do not wish to snowshoe may instead opt for a scenic drive or explore the beautiful town of Leadville.

If you have any questions about this, please contact Jonathan (585)808-8972 or Jonathan Vigh's e-mail address in non-machine readable form

The following people have a pair of snowshoes already arranged:

  • DeWayne (borrowing from the Indermuehles)
  • 1 set (borrowing from the Indermuehles)
  • Matthew (borrowing from Jeff and Suzette)
  • ? (borrowing from Jeff and Suzette)

Ice Skating/Hot Tub Details

Saturday night, some of us will be going ice skating on the spectacular outdoor ice rink in Keystone (largest Zamboni-maintained ice rink in North America). Skating is at your own cost - admission to the rink is $11 and skate rentals are $7. The rink is open until 10 PM, weather permitting. Even if you don't ice skate, you might want to come and walk around the lake and watch us. There is a hotel lobby nearby where you can keep warm.

Others will likely stay at the condo and play games and sit in the hot tub Saturday night. Our condo does not have it's own private hot tub this year, but we will have access to a complex with hot tubs, a pool, and a game room. Please bring your favorite game for Saturday night. And remember to bring a swimsuit.
